nb_mos_00920.jpgThe very ancient capital city of Egypt, was founded by king Nar-Mer the founder of the very first dynasty, and the unifier of the two lands of Egypt; upper Egypt, and lower Egypt. The city was named after the name of king Pipi's pyramid Men-Nefer meaning Beatiful and Stable, which was later pronounced as Memphis by the Greek when they have been in Egypt. The found pieces from Memphis are now kept in a little open-air museum in the present Meet-Rahina village. The city once contained many temples, the biggest among them was the temple of Ptah, the main god of the northern capital.

For visitors nowadays can only see the very artificial Memphis which is that museum houses the colossus Ramsses II, the sphinx of the new kingdom, and some other few pieces.
