The New Grand Egyptian Museum is situated aproximately 2 k.m from Giza pyaramids, also known as the Giza museum, and is part of the Giza plateau new project. It is expected to open in 2015.
The museum is built on 120 acres and is described to be the largest archeological museum in the world.
The organisers received 1557 entries from 82 countries, making it the largest architectural competition in history.
The Museum will also be an international center of communication between museums, to promote direct contact with other local and international museums. The Grand Egyptian Museum will include a children's museum, conference center, training center, and workshops similar to the old Pharaonic places.
Most of the stone stautues displayed on the present old Cairo museum which is located on Tahrir square are to be transffered to the new Grand Egyptian museum, and those golden pieces of king Tut as well as all the jewelery displayed there will remain in the old museum.
Dispite having some political unrest in the country, the construction work on the site of the new Grand Museum is on and going on time.
