The museum is built on 117 acres and is described to be the largest archeological museum in the world.
The organizers received 1557 entries from 82 countries, making it the largest architectural competition in history.
The Museum will also be an international center of communication between museums, to promote direct contact with other local and international museums. The Grand Egyptian Museum includes a children’s museum, conference center, training center, and workshops similar to the old Pharaonic places.
Most of the stone statues displayed on the present old Cairo museum which is located on Tahrir square are to be transferred to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, and those golden pieces of King Tut, as well as all the jewelry, displayed there will remain in the old museum.
