THE GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM OPENING

Grand Egyptian Museum Opening November 4th, 2024!!

Yes, rumors have been circulating that the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) may finally open its doors on November 4th, 2023. This date is significant as it marks the anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. The GEM is set to be the largest archaeological museum in the world and will showcase precious artifacts from ancient Egypt’s rich cultural history, including the complete Tutankhamun collection.

Located in Giza, Egypt, the GEM has been in the works for many years, with its opening dates projected and then postponed due to various reasons. Despite the lack of any official statements from its stakeholders, many people are eagerly waiting for the GEM’s opening to become the newest addition to their bucket list destinations.

It is anticipated that the opening of the GEM will be a significant event not just for Egypt, but also for the world of archaeology and culture. When it eventually opens, the museum is sure to attract a lot of tourists and scholars alike who are passionate about history and eager to explore and learn about ancient Egypt’s civilization.

Apart from the Tutankhamun collection, the GEM will host many other exhibits that offer insights into the rich history of Egypt, specifically the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom periods. The museum’s architectural design is a joint venture between Belgian BESIX Group and Egyptian Orascom Construction companies, and the museum is part of a new master plan for the Giza Plateau called Giza 2030.

In conclusion, with the possible opening date of November 4th, 2023, the Grand Egyptian Museum remains one of the world’s most highly anticipated cultural sites. Its opening will put Egypt firmly back into the global tourism limelight, and its legacy is sure to live on for many generations to come.

Through pre-booking on the GEM official website, Egyptians and foreigners were able to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and participate in many guided tours to assess the site’s preparedness before the formal launch.

Visitors will be given tours of the Great Hall and the Glass Hall, as well as the conference centre and the commercial sector, which includes the museum’s outdoor gardens and food court.

The GEM’s interior areas, including the museum galleries, will stay closed until the ceremonial opening.

The museum is ready to open, according to Magdy Shaker, head archaeologist at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, but certain exterior preparations must be completed before the official opening date is declared.

The new GEM, built over roughly 500,000 square metres and located near the Giza Pyramids, would hold the world’s greatest antiquities collection from a single culture’s history.

The GEM will also include 5,000 relics from Tutankhamun’s collection, including 2,000 artefacts that will be displayed for the first time.

The museum has large display galleries and is highlighted by its closeness to the Giza pyramids and the New Administrative Capital, making it a portal to Egypt’s past, present, and future. It is projected to draw around five million tourists.
