Half-Day Saqqara and Memphis Tour

Before the Great Pyramids of Giza rose against the horizon, the foundations of Egyptian civilization were laid in the sacred sands of Saqqara and the administrative halls of Memphis. Our Private Saqqara and Memphis Half-Day Tour is an elite, focused expedition into the “cradle of stone architecture.” This journey is designed for those who wish to go beyond the standard tourist trail to witness the very first attempts at eternity—where a brilliant architect named Imhotep transformed the world forever.

Visit the Step Pyramid of Saqqara and the Royal City of Memphis

The odyssey begins at Saqqara, the vast, ancient necropolis that served as the burial ground for the royal capital. Here, you will stand in the shadow of the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s oldest major stone structure and the blueprint for every pyramid that followed. But the magic of Saqqara lies in its details; you will explore the exquisite mastabas (tombs) of high officials, where the walls are alive with 4,500-year-old reliefs depicting the daily life, feasts, and rituals of a lost world.

After breakfast or lunch, you will be picked up by a private Egyptologist tour guide to start your trip to Saqqara. You will visit the Step Pyramid complex of King Djoser, the largest monument in Saqqara, and tour the Imhotep Museum, dedicated to the architect of the Step Pyramid, the first pyramid ever built in the history of humanity.” Proceed to the noble tombs of Ka-Gemini and get inside the pyramid of Titi.

The Ancient capital city

Continue your tour to Memphis, the capital city of ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom, and visit the open-air museum to see the colossus of King Ramses II and the Alabaster Sphinx.

Transfer you back to the hotel and drop you off.

Saqqara is the largest ancient site in Egypt, featuring 28 pyramids, numerous ancient tombs and temples, and the largest underground Serapeum, which serves as a tomb for the bull god Serapis.

It is a small Museum that accommodates pieces collected from the Saqqara site. The Museum is about and named after Imhotep, the architect who built the Step Pyramid complex, which is the oldest stone structure in the history of humanity. Imhotep was a genius and was later identified as the god of medicine by the Greeks in Egypt.

The Step Pyramid Complex

It is the funeral complex of King Djoser the founder of the 3rd Dynasty. The complex features the Step Pyramid, the House of the North, the House of the South, the Southern tomb, and the HepSet courtyard.

The Noble Tombs & Titi Pyramid

The tomb of Ka-Gemini, a nobleman from the old Kingdom. The tomb’s walls are covered with daily life scenes from ancient Egypt, and it is rich in details and info about ancient Egyptian life. We will get inside the Pyramid of Titi to see one of the earliest versions of the Book Of the Dead.

Unveiling the Cradle of Civilization

This private half-day expedition is meticulously curated to focus on the “firsts” of human history. By venturing south of the Giza Plateau, you bypass the standard tourist crowds and enter a landscape where the very concept of the pyramid was born.

The Step Pyramid of Djoser (Saqqara):

Witness the absolute birth of stone architecture. Standing 62 meters tall, this 27th-century BCE masterpiece was the first time in human history that builders moved beyond mud-brick to create a monument intended to last forever. You will explore the surrounding funerary complex, including the Great South Court and the Heb-Sed Court, where the King once performed rituals to renew his power.

The Royal Necropolis & Noble Tombs (Mastabas):

Saqqara is famous for more than just its pyramids. You will enter the beautifully preserved mastaba tombs of high-ranking officials. Unlike the austere interiors of the Giza pyramids, these walls are covered in “Daily Life” reliefs—vibrant carvings of hunting, fishing, agriculture, and ancient feasts that provide a 4,500-year-old window into the Egyptian soul.

The Serapeum of Saqqara (Optional/Premium Add-on):

For those seeking the truly mysterious, we can facilitate access to the subterranean galleries of the Serapeum. Here, you will find 24 massive granite sarcophagi, each weighing up to 80 tons, which once held the mummified remains of the sacred Apis Bulls—a testament to the incredible engineering and religious devotion of the late Pharaonic period.

Teti Pyramid & Early Pyramid Texts:

Explore the interior of the Pyramid of Teti. While the exterior looks like a mound of rubble, the burial chamber inside contains some of the earliest “Pyramid Texts”—the sacred incantations designed to help the Pharaoh ascend to the stars and achieve immortality among the gods

The Colossus of Ramses II (Memphis Museum):

In the ruins of the ancient capital, stand at the feet of one of the most impressive statues ever carved. This fallen limestone colossus of Ramses the Great measures nearly 10 meters in length. Even in its prone position, the detail of the king’s musculature, the royal cartouches, and the serene expression of the face demonstrate the pinnacle of New Kingdom artistry.

The Alabaster Sphinx of Memphis:

Admire the “other” Sphinx. Carved from a single massive block of calcite (Egyptian alabaster), this 80-ton monument is the second-largest sphinx in Egypt. Unlike its brother at Giza, this statue sits in the tranquil garden of the Memphis Open-Air Museum, allowing for an intimate look at the delicate craftsmanship of the 18th or 19th Dynasty.
