Wonderful 2-Day Trip to El Minya

Pick-up from any hotel in Cairo or Giza. Start our trip to El Minya for 2 days to visit the tombs of Beni Hassan, Tel Al-Amarna Akhenaton, and Tuna El-Jabal. Stay at the El-Lotus Hotel with lunch, supper, and breakfast included. Return to Cairo and drop off at your Cairo hotel. Al Minya is located in Middle Egypt, 380 kilometers south of Cairo, and is known as the Bride of Upper Egypt. It served as Egypt’s capital city during the reign of King Akhenaton in 1353 B.C. and his famed wife Queen Nefertiti. The city has several ancient ruins, including the tombs of Beni Hassan, Tel el-Amarna, and Tuna El-Jabal, as well as Ashmoneen, the principal worship center of Thot, the deity of learning and literature!

Trip to El Minya for 2 days Itinerary

Day 1: Cairo – El Minya

7:00 AM: Departure from Cairo: Begin your journey with an early morning departure from Cairo. Enjoy a comfortable ride as you travel towards El Minya, approximately a 3-4 hour drive. Feel free to relax and admire the changing landscapes along the way.

10:00 AM: Arrival in El Minya: Arrive in El Minya and start your exploration of this historical city.

10:30 AM: Visit Tel el-Amarna:

Your first stop is Tel el-Amarna, the ancient city founded by Pharaoh Akhenaten in the 14th century B.C. Here, you will explore the ruins of this once-thriving capital. Highlights include:

  • The remnants of temples and palaces are dedicated to the worship of the sun god Aten.
  • Beautifully preserved tombs with intricate wall paintings.
  • A chance to learn about the unique art and culture of the Amarna Period through your guide.

1:00 PM: Lunch in Downtown El Minya: After your visit to Tel el-Amarna, you will head to Downtown El Minya. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring authentic Egyptian cuisine. Savor traditional dishes while enjoying views of the charming corniche along Nile Street.2:30 PM: Stroll Along Nile Street
Post-lunch, take a leisurely stroll along the Nile corniche.

4:00 PM: Check-in at Hotel: After your afternoon explorations, check in to your selected hotel in El Minya. Take some time to relax and refresh before dinner.

7:00 PM: Dinner: Enjoy dinner at the hotel or at a local restaurant. Experience more of the local cuisine while discussing the day’s adventures with your travel companions.


Day 2: El Minya – Cairo

8:00 AM: Breakfast at Hotel: Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, preparing for another exciting day of exploration.

9:00 AM: Visit Tuna El-Jabal: After breakfast, head to Tuna El-Jabal, an ancient necropolis located nearby. Highlights of this site include:

  • The sacred tomb of Petosiris features stunning wall carvings and inscriptions.
  • The Ibis catacombs, where sacred ibises were mummified.
