It features several monuments that have achieved immortal popularity. The complex includes the three great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, along with the Great Sphinx, the Valley Temple, and three smaller pyramids.
The Great Pyramid
Marvel at The Great Pyramid, the sole surviving wonder of the ancient world. Workers built it in 2580 BC during Pharaoh Khufu’s reign to be his eternal resting place. The construction took only 20 years, utilizing 2.3 million limestone blocks and over 100,000 workers. It stands an impressive 147 meters (481 ft) high, remaining one of the world’s tallest structures.
The Great Sphinx
In front of the second great pyramid sits the oldest statue in history: The Great Sphinx. This mythical creature possesses a lion’s body and a man’s head, believed to represent Khafre. Carved entirely from limestone, it measures 73 meters (240 ft) in height and 19 meters (66 ft) in width.
The Valley Temple
Next, you’ll visit The Valley Temple. This ancient site, created during the Old Kingdom (2686–2181 BC), served as a crucial location for mortuary rituals. Its primary purpose was the mummification process for ancient pharaohs.
You’ll then enjoy lunch at a restaurant offering stunning views of both the Nile and the pyramids.
The Egyptian Museum
No tour of Cairo is complete without a visit to The Egyptian Museum, located in the heart of Tahrir Square. This unique museum houses over 120,000 artifacts made from gold, stone, and various other materials. The belongings of the boy king Tutankhamun form the most visited collection within the museum. Additionally, the Grand Mummies’ Rooms offer some of the most unique chambers.
