Above all, the Giza Pyramids are one of the most iconic landmarks in Egypt and the world, situated near the city of Giza, southwest of Cairo.Three pyramids, namely the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated complexes, make up the complex. Builders constructed them during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, between 2600 and 2500 BC.
The Great Pyramid, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or Cheops, holds the title of the largest pyramid in Giza and the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world still standing today. Builders completed the Great Pyramid around 2570 BC, and it reaches an impressive height of 147 meters. Workers constructed it using about 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing around 2.5 tons, and experts estimate that it took around 20 years and involved 100,000 workers to finish.
Khafre’s Pyramid
The Pharaoh Khafre built the Pyramid of Khafre, which is located a few hundred meters southwest of the Great Pyramid and stands at a height of 136 meters. The Pyramid of Khafre is slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid but appears taller due to its elevation.
Pharaoh Menkaure constructed the Pyramid of Menkaure, located a short distance south of the other two pyramids. It is the smallest of the three and stands at a height of 62 meters, with its construction completed around 2510 BC.
A massive statue with the head of a human and the body of a lion. The Sphinx stands at a height of 20 meters and is situated on the west bank of the Nile river. Its purpose remains a mystery.
