It was built in 20 years using 2,300,000 pieces of limestone each weighing 2.5 tons and a workforce with 100,000 free skilled workers. It stands at a height of 147 m (481 ft) which made it the tallest building in the world for 3800 years until the construction of the Lincoln Cathedral in England in 1311.

The Great Sphinx: Also known as Abu Al-Hawl which means The Father of Terror in Arabic, it’s the oldest statue in history, it has the shape of a mythical creature called the Sphinx which has the body of a lion and the head of a man probably King Khafre as a symbol of power and wisdom. It served as a source of inspiration to countless travelers, poets, and travelers even today as a lot of mysteries and unanswered questions still surround the sphinx. It has a height of 73 m (240 ft) and 19 m (66 ft) and was carved out of single limestone rock.

The Valley Temple: It is the home of the Mummification process that started in the old kingdom (2686 2134 BC). It is one of the best-preserved structures of the ancient Egyptian civilization, made entirely from limestone, and granite, and holds amazing diorite statues of Chephren.

Back above ground, continue your trip by visiting:

Pompey’s Pillar: The largest monoliths column ever built outside of Rome, it stands at 28 m tall and 2.7 m wide of pure red granite, and on its western upper side is a Greek inscription dedicated to Emperor Diocletian. Qaitbay Citadel: The ultimate example of the beauty and might of the Mediterranean Sea. It was constructed in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf Al-Din Qa’itbay on top of the legendary lighthouse of Alexandria the third longest surviving wonder in the ancient world until its destruction by earthquakes between 956 AD and 1323 AD using the stones salvaged from the lighthouse. Egypt Fun Tours - Valley of Whales Day Trip - AMAZING EXPERIENCE

June 12, 2024

Jan 2013 • Family

My family and I were visiting Egypt for only 5 days, so we contact Egypt Fun Tours to see what they could suggest we can do for one day. Fortunately, after looking at their website, they had a category with EXACTLY what we needed – Cairo Day Tours! Given that this was our fourth visit to Cairo, and definitely NOT our first experience touring with EFT, Hani and Mohammad immediately came up with a plan for us, where we would visit a new place and experience the most incredible views; (we’ve already seen the pyramids, museum, citadel, etc). Our trip was to the Valley of the Whales! I won’t give away too much information, but it required an approximately three hour van ride into the open desert (TOTALLY different from the desert in Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel, etc) and when we got there, the view was breathtaking! We were entertained by Hani’s Egyptian History trivia, as well as the adventurous van ride for several kilometers through the sand! We also had the opportunity to pass through the Fayyoum Oasis and to visit the Waterfalls all in one trip! Almost forgot to mention the DELICIOUS lunch with Bedouins! This is not a very common trip among tourists, but it definitely should be! If you have seen all of Egypt’s “main” attractions, you haven’t seen everything yet! Bring your camera and your sneakers and enjoy a wonderful day at the Valley of the Whales and all nearby attractions! As if our day wasn’t incredible enough, Hani and Mohammad took us to Old Cairo at night to a gorgeous coffee shop – Oum Kolsoum – to drink tea and coffee and then delivered us back to our hotel. Thank you so much Egypt Fun Tours for another memorable experience! See you soon inshallah!
