Day 2: Discover Egypt’s Riches of Ancient Relics
On the second day, enjoy your breakfast. Afterward, check out of the hotel. Then, join your private tour guide to explore the treasures of ancient Egypt, starting with:
Giza Pyramids Complex
Be amazed! The Giza Pyramids complex has stood for 4,000 years, making it one of the world’s oldest constructions. This complex includes three significant pyramids, six smaller pyramids, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley Temple’s everlasting preservation site.
The Great Pyramid of Giza
Marvel at the enormous pyramid of Khufu. It is the last surviving monument of the ancient world’s seven wonders. At over 4,500 years old, it remains a captivating enigma due to the fringe hypotheses surrounding its origin and its intricate interior. Built in 2580 BC, it took 20 years to complete using 2,300,000 pieces of 2.5-ton limestone and a workforce of 100,000 skilled workers. Standing at 147 meters (481 feet), it was the tallest building in the world for 3,800 years until the Lincoln Cathedral in England was completed in 1311.
Afterward, encounter the Sphinx, one of the most enigmatic artifacts in the world. Shaped like a mythological creature, it has the body of a lion and the head of a man, believed to represent King Khafre. This symbolizes power and knowledge. In Arabic, it is called Abu al-Hawl, meaning “The Father of Terror.” The Sphinx measures 73 meters (240 feet) tall and 19 meters (66 feet) wide, carved from a single limestone boulder.
The Valley Temple
Afterward, visit the Valley Temple, built during Egypt’s ancient monarchy (2686-2134 BC). This site is significant as it was where the mummification process took place. It stands as one of the best-preserved archaeological sites of ancient Egyptian civilization, offering a wealth of knowledge about mummification practices. Following this, enjoy lunch at a local Cairo restaurant. Then, we will proceed to see:
Prepare to be impressed! The Egyptian Museum houses the world’s most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities and monuments, some dating back over 4,000 years. Within this two-story structure, you will find over 150,000 artifacts. These range from extravagant materials like gold and gemstones to ordinary materials such as wood and stone, including statues and funerary objects like King Tutankhamun’s treasures, the Narmer palette, and papyrus.
Additionally, you can view several well-known mummies that provide insight into ancient Egyptian thought. Finally, you will travel to Cairo airport, catch a flight to Luxor, and then settle into a 5-star hotel for the night in Luxor.
Day 3: Visit Luxor to See the Ancient Gems in All Their Glory
Start your day! On day 3, you’ll enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Then, continue your Easter vacation in Egypt by visiting notable Luxor tourist sites, such as:
The Kings’ Valley
Step into history! The Valley of the Kings is a time capsule in the heart of the sacred mountain. It served as the last resting place for Egypt’s New Kingdom kings and queens (1570-1070 BC). Here, you will find 63 tombs filled with enchanted treasures, artifacts, statues, and beautiful decorations. Notably, the remains of pharaohs such as Rameses (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X), Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, and the famous King Tutankhamun reside here. This led to the valley being designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
Temple of Hatshepsut
Next, visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, known as Luxor’s most beautiful structure. Originally named Djoser-Djeseru (Holy of Holies), it showcases the strength and will of Queen Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt’s most successful rulers. Conceived in 1479 BC, the temple took 15 years to build. The architecture follows the classical architecture philosophy of the New Kingdom, housing some of Egypt’s most stunning sculptures, decorations, and antiques.
Afterward, explore the Colossi of Memnon, unique among Upper Egypt’s monuments. Renowned as the enormous guardians of Luxor, these two gigantic slabs of quartzite sandstone each weigh 720 tonnes and resemble Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
Standing at 18 meters (60 feet), the builders originally constructed them during the reign of Amenhotep III (1386–1350). A massive earthquake in 27 BC damaged the colossi, but restorers reconstructed them around 199 AD. Following this, enjoy lunch on an island, which includes a Nile River boat ride. Then, visit:
Karnak Temple
Discover the Karnak Temple, also known as Ipet-isu. This site is one of the holiest destinations on Earth. Dating back over 4,000 years, it is the world’s largest artificial religious structure and the largest open-air museum. For more than 1,500 years, it served as the center of religious worship for the ancient Egyptian kingdom.
The ancient Egyptians dedicated the temple to the Theban triad, which included God Amun, his wife, the Goddess of Justice Mut, and his son, the moon god Khnsou. Additionally, the temple honored other gods such as Osiris, Montu, Ptah, and Isis. Finally, you’ll return to your hotel for the night.
Day 4: Unleash Your Spirit in Aswan’s Scenic Wonders
On day 4, you will have breakfast. Afterward, check out of your Luxor hotel. Afterward, begin your Egypt Easter holiday by boarding a first-class train to Aswan. There, you will meet your private Egyptologist tour guide and visit all of Aswan’s famous sights, including:
High Dam of Aswan
Witness the strength of the High Dam, built between 1960 and 1970 under President Gamal Abdel Nasser. This modern marvel was constructed in collaboration with the Moscow-based Hydro Project Institute. Its purpose is to improve Nile flooding management, generate hydropower, and boost water storage for agriculture in Lake Nasser.
The Unfinished Obelisk
Afterward, see the Unfinished Obelisk, ordered by Queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC) to stand at the entrance of the Karnak temple. Regrettably, it remains unfinished. Known as “Tekhenu,” meaning “to pierce the sky,” it would have stood 42 meters tall and weighed 1,200 tonnes. This site demonstrates how obelisks were built from the ground up, showcasing the ancient Egyptian building style. Unfortunately, the obelisk was shattered during construction and has remained in place ever since. Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Aswan. Then, finish your day by visiting:
Temple of Philae
Explore the Philae Temple, the epitome of myth, appeal, and beauty. It is renowned for propagating the “Myth of Osiris,” in which Isis’ husband, Osiris, is slain by his brother Set. In this story, Isis and their son Horus, the sky god, defeat Set, ending an era of tyranny and injustice. Notably, the temple was transported to the island of Agilkia in the 1960s as part of a UNESCO-led rescue operation after the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Finally, you’ll check into a 5-star hotel in Aswan for the night.
Day 5: Marvel at Abu Simbel’s Magnificence
On day five, check out of the hotel and receive your breakfast boxes. Then, depart in a private air-conditioned vehicle with your tour guide to Abu Simbel.
Temples of Abu Simbel
Prepare to be awed by the two colossal temples of Abu Simbel, which King Ramses II (1279-1213 BCE) constructed during the New Kingdom. These temples serve as the last boundary and protector of the southern border, embodying magnificence and splendor.
The temple is known as the “Temple of Ramesses, Amun’s Favorite. Furthermore, every year, the Sun Festival takes place on February 22nd and October 22nd. On these special days, the sun shines on the faces of the four seated statues of Ramses II, Ptah (God of Creation), Amun (the Creator God), and Ra (the Sun God). In addition, the smaller temple is dedicated to his wife, Queen Nefertari. Finally, return to Aswan for lunch before boarding your flight to Cairo. Afterward, transfer to your accommodation for the night.
