After breakfast, check out of your hotel and meet your tour guide. You will be transferred in a private air-conditioned vehicle to explore some of Luxor’s top tourist attractions:
- Valley of the Kings: Known as a stairway to heaven, this site has served as the final resting place for the greatest kings and queens of Egypt’s New Kingdom (1570-1070 BC). The valley contains 63 tombs, filled with enchanting treasures, artifacts, and the remains of notable pharaohs, including Ramses I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, X, Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, and the famous boy-king Tutankhamun. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has captivated visitors for centuries.
- Hatshepsut Temple: A spectacular example of ancient architecture, this temple was known as Djoser-Djeseru (Holy of Holies) and epitomizes the grandeur of the New Kingdom as envisioned by one of Egypt’s most powerful rulers, Queen Hatshepsut. Constructed in 1479 BC, the temple features three levels connected by two wide ramps and houses some of Luxor’s most majestic statues and artifacts.
Lunch: Local Egyptian Food
Then, enjoy a delicious lunch at a distinguished restaurant in Luxor before continuing your tour:
- Colossi of Memnon: These two magnificent statues, standing at 18 meters (60 feet) tall and weighing 720 tons each, depict Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1386–1350 BC). Though damaged by an earthquake in 27 BC, they were reconstructed in 199 AD. The statues gained fame during the Greco-Roman period due to the phenomenon known as The Vocal Memnon, where they would produce musical sounds at dawn, caused by the wind passing through the statues.
- Karnak Temple: One of the holiest places in the world and the largest religious complex ever built, Karnak Temple dates back over 4,000 years. Known as Ipet-isu (The Most Selected of Places), it served as the center for the worship of numerous deities, primarily focusing on the Theban triad: God Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu.
