Its distinctive double design features two symmetrical halves—one dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the other to the falcon sky god Horus. Explore the fascinating architecture and historical significance of this remarkable site.

Next, continue sailing to:

  • Temple of Edfu: As one of the last temples constructed during the Ptolemaic period (237 BC – 57 BC), the Edfu Temple was dedicated to the sky deity Horus. According to the Osiris Myth, this temple was built on the very site of the legendary battle between Horus and the demon god Set. Discovered by French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette in 1860, the temple features stunning architecture that beautifully blends Greek and Egyptian styles.

5th day: Sail to Luxor and Explore the Monuments

After breakfast, check out from your cruise. Your tour guide and private air-conditioned vehicle will take you on a journey through Luxor’s remarkable sights, starting with:

  • Valley of the Kings: This UNESCO World Heritage Site served as the final resting place for Egypt’s most illustrious kings and queens from 1570 to 1070 BC. With 63 tombs filled with treasures, artifacts, and intricate decorations, the valley is home to the remains of pharaohs like Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, Ramses II, and the famous boy-king Tutankhamun.
  • Temple of Hatshepsut: Also known as Djeser-Djeseru (Holy of Holies), this temple showcases the grandeur of the New Kingdom (1550–1070 BC) and the vision of Queen Hatshepsut, one of Ancient Egypt’s most successful rulers. Built over 15 years after her ascendance in 1479 BC, the temple features stunning architecture and exquisite sculptures.
  • Colossi of Memnon: Standing at 18 meters (60 feet) tall, these two massive quartzite statues represent Pharaoh Amenhotep III and weigh approximately 720 tonnes each. Although they were damaged by an earthquake in 27 BC, they were reconstructed in 199 AD. The statues were famous in the Greco-Roman era for producing sounds at dawn, known as the “Vocal Memnon.”

After your sightseeing, enjoy a boat ride down the Nile River to a nearby island for lunch. Conclude your day with a visit to:

  • Temple of Karnak: Known as Ipet-Isu (“The Most Selected of Places”), this ancient temple complex is the oldest religious structure in the world, dating back over 4,000 years. For 1,500 years, the Theban triad—God Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khnsou—along with other deities like Osiris, Montu, Ptah, and Isis, were worshipped here.
