The Education system in Egypt

The education system in Egypt is a crucial topic that offers insight into how Egyptian minds are formed. Stage 1: Nursery

This stage lasts one year, after which the children can progress to Kindergarten.

Kindergarten (Grade 2)

The Education system in Egypt begins with kindergarten for children aged three and a half. This stage lasts for two years. By the end of the first year, children learn to recognize the shapes of Arabic and English letters and numbers, and some can write their own names. In the second year, they begin to recognize simple words in both languages, such as the names of fruits, vegetables, and animals.

Kindergarten offers various activities, including sports, social events, and field trips. By the time they finish this stage, children should know at least 100 English words, in addition to Arabic. They should also be able to sing around 20 English songs and add two-digit numbers. This period is a crucial and challenging phase for a child’s development, as it helps them build their personality and skills.

The system relies on highly skilled female teachers who have the training and expertise to work with young children, ensuring they feel comfortable and safe in their learning environment.

3-Elementary Schools

When kids go from Kindergarten to primary school, they become perplexed because they are expected to write and complete a large amount of homework. They must also study a second foreign language, primarily English. They can recognize parts of Egyptian history and the human body’s major organs; mathematics is also an essential topic at this time. During this period, physical education is highly essential, and schools are concerned with planning visits to various locations and touring inside Egypt. The kid attends elementary school for six years before moving on to Preparatory School.

4- Schools of Preparation

It takes three years to complete and is more difficult than primary school. Students study extra topics such as geography, math, physics, foreign languages, and religion so that they may select after those three years whatever portion of secondary school they want to pursue.

5- Secondary Schools

Upper secondary schools are divided into three categories:

Secondary schools for general education.
Secondary schools affiliated with Al-Azhar.
Secondary technical schools.

Schools for General Secondary Education

It provides academic programs that prepare students for higher education institutions such as universities and colleges. Students can select between two courses in the General Education sector: scientific or literary.

Students choose subjects from two main streams: Scientific and Literary. Both streams require students to study English and Arabic.

Scientific Section: Students take mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry.
Literary Section: Students take arts, history, geography, and home economics.

Students also select elective subjects based on their desired college major. These include environmental sciences, social studies, national studies, philosophy, psychology, music, and other European languages like French, German, Italian, or Spanish. The program takes three years to complete. Afterward, students can apply to a university of their choice, depending on their final grades.

Secondary Schools in Al Azhar

It provides academic programs with a focus on Islamic religious education. In 1998, Egypt’s Ministry of Education decreased the number of secondary school years from four to three to align the Al Azhar system with the broader secondary education system.

Secondary Technical Schools

A distinct kind of secondary school that offers technical and vocational programs that span three to five years and allow students to specialize in one of three streams: technical, industrial, or agricultural.

6- Advanced Education (University)

Egypt has approximately 42 universities, including 20 state universities and 22 private institutions. The state universities serve about 2 million students, while the private schools enroll roughly 1 million students and grow each year.
