A fantastic half-day tour Visiting Islamic Cairo

Pick up from any location within Cairo or Giza to start our Cairo half-day walking tour in Islamic Cairo “Al-Qahira” from Bab Zwaila to Bab El-Nasr. Walking all Al-Muez street and exploring all that this old street has to offer. Transfer back to your location. El-Muez street is the main street of the old Islamic medieval city, there is so much to see in this street, and probably one full day is not enough to take in all the attractions of this street, however, in this half-day tour, we will show you the most important and beautiful sites, and also see the outside view of each attraction in the street, and get info about the history of each.

Itineraries

Stop 1: Zwaila Gate

It is one of the three gates that are still standing. The old fortified Cairo had 7 gates of which 4 are gone, and only 3 are remaining.

Stop 2: Al-Moaiad Shaikh Mosque

A beautiful giant Mosque from the 9th century. We will probably climb the stairs and see the view of the old city from the roof.

Stop 3: El-Ghori Complex

Islamic Complex of Sultan El-Ghori. The complex consists of a big Mosque, A school for teaching Quran, & a Wekala “Shopping mall). This stop is from the outside view.

Stop 4: Khan El-Khalili Tourist Market

The market is the oldest tourist market on the planet, it used to be a market for selling grains, and it was switched into a tourist market at the time of the treasure hunters. This stop is to see the old medieval buildings around the market, however, it is also a not-recommended shopping opportunity.

Stop 4: Lunch

We will get Egyptian local lunch or Shawerma and Falafel.

Stop 5: Qalawoon Complex

Another Islamic Complex. We will get inside the complex of Qalawoon which is one of the most beautiful sites on El-Muez street.

Stop 6: The Textile Musem

The Museum used to be a school where President Nasser studied (outside view).

Stop 7: Al-Hakim Mosque

Giant Mosque from the Fatimid time. We will probably get inside if the Mosque was open for visitors.

Stop 8: Bab El-Foutouh

Another gate of the old fortified city.

Cairo walking tours
After a rocky start (the driver had been in an accident on his way to pick me up,) the company very quickly sent another driver/guide named Mohammed who was a real pro. Thoroughly enjoyed my first day in Egypt!
