My husband and I visited Egypt in March 2013. First, let me say, ‘Go, go, go!’ – it’s safer and definitely friendlier than many places we’ve visited. Tourism is drastically down – thanks mostly to media misinformation – so it’s a great time to visit to avoid line-ups and crowds at temples and monuments. Additionally, securing chaise lounges on Nile cruises and Red Sea beach resorts is not an issue. Many Europeans were travelling in Egypt, but hardly anyone from North America. As Canadians from the west coast, we were considered a welcome oddity.
We googled ‘things to do’ and came up with Egypt Fun Tours. We booked their five-day, four-night desert safari from Cairo to Luxor online. Their responses were immediate and helpful, and sending payment not an issue. We wired money from our bank to theirs, but if that hadn’t worked, they said we could pay on arrival! Hatem, at Egypt Fun Tours, asked if there was anything else they could do for us – so they ended up booking our Cairo and Luxor hotels, internal flights and airport transfers. We had already booked an all-inclusive on the Red Sea and a Nile Cruise – but wish we’d found Egypt Fun Tours first! They are very knowledgable and can get excellent rates at hotels, etc. They advised of changes to flight times and were always there to pick us up.
The Desert Safari was incredible. Our guide, Ahmed from Diametta, is a very bright Egyptologist fluent in English and very knowledgable about Egypt’s history and geography. He had endless patience with our questions and a great sense of humour. We had several different drivers for the safari – and really enjoyed the off-road trip through the White Desert and camping there at night. The desert is not just sand dunes as we had imagined, but incredible rock formations and packed full of history.
Our day tours in Cairo with Egypt Fun Tours were packed with adventure and history. Of course, we had to visit the pyramids and sphinx and ride a camel. But there’s so much more – and they tried to show us the less-trodden areas of Cairo. Sufi dancing one night was incredible – and we didn’t even have to pay for the guide’s company that night.
Heny at Egypt Fun Tours was our ‘go to’ guide – he said to call anytime from anywhere and he’d help. He always phoned to make sure we’d been picked up on time and if there was anything else he could do.
We rate Egypt Fun Tours five-stars for their professionalism, thorough knowledge of all parts of Egypt, their expert university-trained guides, their hospitality …well, I could go on but try them for yourself and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime!
