We had an 11-hour layover in Cairo on 12/15/2011. We wanted to go to see the Pyramids, Tahrir Square, and possibly the museum. We were so lucky to have a guide, Hani from Egypt Fun Tour, who made it possible to see all the above, plus the Bazaar, and time for a good Egyptian dinner and traditional tea. Wow, we just felt so lucky to have Hani. Hani was waiting for us at the airport with my name on a card. Seeing pyramids and sphinxes was fantastic, but afterwards we actually could not make it to the museum on time, which closed at 4 pm.
It was really true that the traffic over there was insane. BUT, our guide Hani ran to the backside of the museum and asked some security guards if we could still get in for 30 minutes. And he did it! We were allowed to get inside the museum, and here again Hani ran and took us to the most important pieces that we should see in the museum. Not only could we get to see all that we wanted to see in Cairo for 7 hrs (subtracting the airport time), but Hani was also informative and attentive throughout the tour.
While we were going to see attractions, our driver kept our luggage in the car (we were on the way to Africa), and we felt very secure and comfortable. The tour was $78/person plus tips, and the price includes all the fees to get into the Giza area and the museum. We could have made it cheaper if we went totally individually by getting taxies each way, but the fact that we could keep our luggages in the car, we had no hassle in negotiating taxi fees in each way, and we had the awesome Hani who got us all the places in the limited time and had shared so much info of ancient and modern egypt were so valuable than any other options. You know that we gave very generous tips to Hani and the driver at the end of the day. TRULY RECOMMENDED!
