Archaeological Route: 9 Days Unraveling the Amarna Revolution

H3: Days 1-3: Capital and Preparatory Sites (Cairo & Saqqara)

• 1st day (Arrival in Cairo): Arrive in Cairo and meet your dedicated Egyptologist guide. Transfer to your hotel. Evening lecture focusing on the religious shift from Amen to Aten.
• 2nd day (Necropolis Study): Explore Saqqara, focusing on later monuments and examining the transition from Old to New Kingdom belief systems that set the stage for Amarna.
• 3rd day (Cairo Museums): Intensive thematic study at the NMEC and GEM. We focus specifically on New Kingdom artifacts, early Tutankhamun items, and materials that immediately post-date the Amarna period.

H3: Days 4-6: The Heretic City (El Minya & Tel El-Amarna)

• Day 4 (Travel to El Minya): Drive south to Middle Egypt. Check into your boutique hotel. Your Egyptologist will conduct an afternoon site preparation lecture on the history and layout of the Heretic City.
• 5th day (Tel El-Amarna Expedition): Dedicate a full day to exploring the vast, windswept ruins of the capital Akhetaten. Visit the Northern Tombs, the Great Temple, and the site of the main city center with your guide. This is the core of your Amarna Archaeological Expedition.
• Day 6 (Beni Hassan): Visit the striking rock-cut tombs of Middle Kingdom nobles nearby. These tombs provide essential contextual information on regional administration and art style leading up to the Amarna era.

H3: Days 7-9: Thebes and the Aftermath (Luxor & Departure)

• 7th day (Thebes Arrival): Drive south to Luxor. Check in and review the historical evidence of Amarna’s intentional destruction.
• Day 8 (West Bank Reaction): Visit the Valley of the Kings. We focus on the tomb of Tutankhamun and other immediate post-Amarna pharaohs who led the religious restoration. This highlights the speed of the shift back to orthodoxy following the Amarna Archaeological Expedition.
• 9th day (Final Study & Departure): Early morning visit to Karnak Temple, specifically looking for evidence of dismantled Akhenaten structures (talatat blocks). Transfer to Luxor Airport for flight back to Cairo and international departure.
