El Minya City

El Minya City

With its location along the Nile Valley in the heart of Egyptian territory, El Minya City is one of the most attractive cities in Upper Egypt. Because of its location and beauty, El Minya is regarded as the “Bride of Upper Egypt.” It is situated on the western bank of the Nile River, which runs north via Cairo, roughly 245 kilometers (152 miles) south of Cairo.

El Minya City’s standout feature

The city of Al Minya is notable for its sugar, soap, and perfume industries. Historically, it was a major cotton production center, and people used the Greek and Egyptian homes—which now serve as government offices—for that purpose.

Tourist facilities in El Minya city

El Minya also has a number of tourist-friendly facilities, including excellent hotels along the Nile’s cliff and numerous Nile boats ideal for picnics. In addition, El Minya city has a big railway station that connects it to other important tourist cities and sites, as well as public transportation, good restaurants, and all the other amenities that a metropolitan city would have.

History of El Minya city

The city’s name comes from the ancient Egyptian Men’at Khufu, meaning “Khufu’s nursing city,” after Pharaoh Khufu, who built the Great Pyramid. Al Minya has many tourist attractions, including the Beni Hassan Necropolis, Hermopolis, and Tuna Al Gabal. Other sites include Tell El-Amarna, with its temples of Aten, and the Tomb of the Sculptor Thutmose.

You can also visit several other tombs, such as those of Kheti, Baket, Amenemhet, Khunmhotep, and Merrier. The city also has the Tomb of Ay and the Boundary stela.

About 65 kilometers northwest of the capital, you can find El Bahnassa. This is often considered Al Minya’s most important Islamic site, as some of Prophet Mohamed’s friends are buried there.

El Minya City’s Economic Importance

The public sector dominates the industry, controlling the majority of capital and intermediate goods production. Cement, chemicals, mining, fertilizers, and agriculture are among the state-run businesses.

Minya lies between two mountain ranges of about 500 meters on its western and eastern sides. It slopes away from the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The city has harsh, icy winters and scorching, non-humid summers.

Temperatures in Minya can reach 40°C in the summer, but they dip to sub-zero levels at night in the winter. El Minya is accessible by tourists for a one- or two-day trip from Cairo or Luxor. Visiting Beni Hassan’s well-known attractions. A frequent travel program provided by local tour providers in Egypt is Tell El Amarana and Tuna El Gabal.
