Day 1: A Tour of Cairo’s Historical Sites
Your two-day tour of Cairo and Luxor begins in Makadi Bay. We will pick you up from your hotel in an air-conditioned car and drive you to Hurghada airport. From there, you will fly to Cairo. Your tour guide will meet you and take you on a tour of ancient Egypt’s wonders.
Giza Pyramids Complex
First, you will visit the Giza Pyramids Complex. The complex was built around 2400 BC and includes the three great pyramids, the magnificent Sphinx, and six smaller pyramids. You will see the Great Pyramid of Giza, the last surviving wonder of the ancient world. Built in 2580 BC, it stands at 147 meters (481 feet) and has an astonishing interior design. You will also see the Great Sphinx of Giza, a massive statue with the body of a lion and the head of a human, possibly King Khafra. The Sphinx stands 73 meters (240 feet) tall and 19 meters (66 feet) wide. It is a powerful protector of the complex. Next, you will explore the Valley Temple, a well-preserved Old Kingdom archaeological site. This temple was the center of the mummification process.
The Egyptian Museum
After your tour of the pyramids, we will serve lunch at a restaurant with views of the pyramids or the Nile. Then, we will take you to the Egyptian Museum. Here, you will see over 250,000 artifacts made of various materials, as well as several mummies that are more than 5,000 years old.
In the evening, you will continue your journey by flying to Luxor. An Egypt Fun Tours representative will meet you at the Luxor airport and transfer you to a 5-star hotel for check-in and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Exploring Luxor’s Historical Highlights
On the second day, you will enjoy breakfast and check out of your hotel. Your tour guide and a private, air-conditioned vehicle will take you to all of Luxor’s highlights.
The Valley of the Kings
First, you will visit the Valley of the Kings. This New Kingdom necropolis (1570-1070 BC) holds 63 captivating tombs. You will see incredible jewels, antiques, stunning decorations, and the mummies of pharaohs such as Rameses II, Hatshepsut, and Tutankhamun.
Temple of Hatshepsut
Next, you will visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as Deir El-Bahari. This is Egypt’s best-preserved temple, built to honor Queen Hatshepsut’s legacy and to worship the god Amun.
The Colossi of Memnon
Then, you will stand before the Colossi of Memnon. These two massive quartzite sandstone sculptures traveled 700 miles to guard the Luxor gate. Each one stands 18 meters (60 feet) tall and weighs 720 tons. It is believed that the statues resemble Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1386-1350 BC).
Karnak Temple
Lunch will be served on a Nile boat during a short cruise. Afterward, you will visit Karnak Temple, one of the world’s largest open-air museums. It spans 247 acres and features several temples and shrines dedicated to deities like Amun, Mut, and Khnsou.
Finally, we will drive you back to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, concluding your two-day Cairo and Luxor trip from Makadi Bay.
