Queen Nefertari
Queen Nefertari was a member of the 19th dynasty in the New Kingdom (1550-1070 BC) and the beloved main wife of the great Pharaoh Ramses II, A.K.A Ramses the Great.
She was the main wife of the great Pharaoh Ramses II (1303-1213 BC). He adored her. She was his first and favorite wife. He married her before he became pharaoh. Nefertari was not a king’s daughter, but she was a lady of true nobility. She was 13 years old when she married Ramses II. He was 15.
Ramses had about 200 offspring, while Nefertari had just six sons: Amun-her-Khepeshef, Pareherwenemef, Meriatum, and Meryre. Meritamen and Henuttawy, two daughters.

Queen Nefertari is Egypt’s beauty symbol; her name means “beautiful companion, believer of Mut,” and she is known by various names, including “Sweet of Love,” “Bride of God,” “Lady of the Two Lands,” “King’s Great Wife,” and “God’s Wife.”
The death of Queen Nefertari
Queen Nefertari died around 1256 BC. She was approximately 40 to 50 years old. Her tomb in the Valley of the Queens is a superb example of ancient Egyptian art. It shows the significant role women played in their culture.
Ramses II built the tomb for his beloved wife. It is the most magnificent and largest tomb in the Valley of the Queens. Artists decorated it beautifully. They used captivating colors and well-preserved murals. These murals show scenes from her daily life. They also depict poetry and sacred scriptures from the Book of the Dead.
Tomb robbers stole her mummy and sarcophagus. However, some remnants of her tomb still exist. You can see these artifacts at the Egyptian Museum.
Abu Simbel’s Nefertari Temple
Ramses II built a temple for his wife, Nefertari. He demonstrated his love for her. The temple stands at Abu Simbel, just a hundred meters from his grand temple. It was the smallest of the Abu Simbel temples. Ramses dedicated it to Hathor, the goddess of joy, love, and happiness. A large statue of Hathor, Ramses, and the gods stands there.
