First stop

Time : 7:00 am

Lake Qarun

It is 20 km from Fayoum, 80 km from Cairo. The lake is considered one of the most important ancient natural lakes. It is the remaining part of the ancient Moeris Lake. It comprises of 1155 km2. It is five meters depth in the east, thirteen meters in the west. You can practice water sports, fishing and bird watching. The best period for fishing is from July to September.

Stop 2

Tunis Village

The small village of Tunis (‘izbat Tunis) is located in the oasis of Fayoum, on the way to Wadi Rayan. Located on a hill facing a large salt water lake, the village overlooks a stunning view of the edge of the desert on the other side of the lake. It is one of the most beautiful places in Egypt.

Stop 3

Wadi El-Hitan

A UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2005 for its hundreds of fossils of some of the earliest forms of whales, the archaeoceti (a now extinct sub-order of whales). The site reveals evidence for the explanation of one of the greatest mysteries of the evolution of whales: the emergence of the whale as an ocean-going mammal from a previous life as a land-based animal. No other place in the world yields the number, concentration, and quality of such fossils, as is their accessibility and setting in an attractive and protected landscape. This is why it was added by the UNESCO to the list of protected World

Stop 4

Mudawara Mountain

Mudawara Mountain is located only a couple of hundred meters to the south of Wadi El Rayyan Road, just after it passes to the north of Al Fayyum Lake. The mountain has three main summits with a few bumps rising to the west. The easternmost is a short spire of rock with a surprising pit dug into the summit. It has a small enough footprint that Google Earth doesn't even register its presence. Interestingly, it is the hardest summit to reach and most likely has a top below sea level. Mudawara Mountain, 45 million years old, is associated with the pre-Middle Leocene period, which moved north of Egypt, resulting in arches in the north-east and south-west direction.

Stop 5

Wadi El-Rayan

The valley of Wadi El-Rayan is an area of 1759km2, 113km2 of which are the dominating water body of the Wadi El Rayan lakes. It is located about 65km southwest of Faiyum city and 80km west of the Nile River. The Wadi has been used for man-made lakes from agricultural drainage which has made a reserve of the two separate Wadi El Rayan Lakes. The reserve is composed of a 50.90km2 upper lake and a 62.00km2 lower lake, with waterfalls between the two. Among the springs, there are three sulfur springs at the southern side of the lower lake, with extensive mobile sand dunes. Wadi El Rayan Waterfalls are considered to be the largest waterfalls in Egypt.

Day trip to Wadi el Hitan and Wadi el Rayan

We went on a full-day trip to Wadi el Hitan and Wadi el Rayan with Mohamed (Hamada). Mohamed was a wonderful guide, always making sure we had plenty of water and enough to eat, and providing us with information about the area and Egypt more generally. He also gave us plenty of time to explore by ourselves. We would highly recommend Egypt Fun Tours and Mohamed.

Valley of the Whales – Wadi el Hitan and Wadi El Rayan

What a blast! It was an amazing day and a 5-star day trip. Everything was organized from A to Z by Hamada and Mohamed at Egypt Fun Tours in a timely manner. Pick up/drop off from/to the hotel, exquisite lunch, and snacks, 4×4 jeep. Everything was as advertised. Also, the price is much competitive than other similar service providers. And the quality of service was great. When it comes to the Valley of the whales, this place is out of this world. I mean whales with feet dating back to 40 million years! Egypt is really an old country!! I felt like I was in a time machine. This trip has been a highlight of our Egypt holiday. A must-do activity for anyone who seeks a different adventure.

Our guide Hamada is a great guy, he has surprised us with many stories on the Wadi el Hitan area as well as Egyptian mythology. He has great knowledge and speaks perfect English.

We are happy to recommend Egypt Fun Tours, Hamada, and Mohamed to anyone seeking a lifetime trip. Thanks a lot, Hamada and Mohamed. The souvenir of this trip will stay with us forever.

    Brilliant tour to Wadi Al-Hitan

Myself and my partner had a brilliant tour all the way out to Wadi Al-Hitan (whale valley). The whole experience was very smooth with excellent communication with Hamada who was very happy to answer all our questions by email.

Our tour guide was Mohammed who was very friendly and helpful and let us spend as long as we wanted at each site without putting us under any pressure.

The site of Wadi Al-Hitan is incredible, and very beautifully presented in a very informative museum and a stunning walk around the various fossil sites. If you have time to visit this stunning site then I would highly recommend it and I would 100% recommend Hamada and Egypt Fun Tours.

Egypt Fun Tours – Valley of Whales Day Trip – AMAZING EXPERIENCE

My family and I were visiting Egypt for only 5 days, so we contact Egypt Fun Tours to see what they could suggest we can do for one day. Fortunately, after looking at their website, they had a category with EXACTLY what we needed – Cairo Day Tours! Given that this was our fourth visit to Cairo, and definitely NOT our first experience touring with EFT, Hani and Mohammad immediately came up with a plan for us, where we would visit a new place and experience the most incredible views; (we’ve already seen the pyramids, museum, citadel, etc). Our trip was to the Valley of the Whales! I won’t give away too much information, but it required an approximately three-hour van ride into the open desert (TOTALLY different from the desert in Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel, etc) and when we got there, the view was breathtaking! We were entertained by Hani’s Egyptian History trivia, as well as the adventurous van ride for several kilometers through the sand! We also had the opportunity to pass through the Fayyoum Oasis and to visit the Waterfalls all in one trip! I almost forgot to mention the DELICIOUS lunch with Bedouins! This is not a very common trip among tourists, but it definitely should be! If you have seen all of Egypt’s “main” attractions, you haven’t seen everything yet! Bring your camera and your sneakers and enjoy a wonderful day at the Valley of the Whales and all nearby attractions! As if our day wasn’t incredible enough, Hani and Mohammad took us to Old Cairo at night to a gorgeous coffee shop – Oum Kolsoum – to drink tea and coffee and then delivered us back to our hotel. Thank you so much Egypt Fun Tours for another memorable experience! See you soon inshallah!
