It stands at a height of 147 m (481 ft) which made it the tallest building in the world for 3800 years until the construction of the Lincoln Cathedral in England in 1311.

The Great Sphinx

The oldest statue in history has the shape of a mythical creature called the Sphinx which has the body of a lion and the head of a man probably King Khafre as a symbol of power and wisdom. Djeser-Djeseru (Holy of Holies) is the beauty of Luxor, it reflects the greatness of the new kingdom (1550-1070 BC) and showcases the vision and glory of one of the most successful rulers in the history of Ancient Egypt Queen Hatshepsut. It was designed by Hatshepsut s chancellor Senenmut in 1479 BC and took 15 years to construct. The design of the temple is based on the concept of Classical Architecture. It holds some of the most impressive decorations and statues in all of Egypt.

Colossi of Memnon

Two blocks of quartzite sandstone stand at the height of 18 m (60ft) weighing 720 tons each that has the shape of Amenhotep III (1386-1350). The Colossi are quite damaged due to a large earthquake in 27 BC but were rebuilt again in 199 AD. The statues were famous during the Greco-Roman period as there used to be a rumor of The Vocal Memnon as the statues sang from time to time which was nothing more than the sound of the wind passing through the statue.

Karnak Temple

Pompey’s Pillar

It stands at the height of 28 m tall and 2.7 m wide of pure red granite and on its western upper side is a Greek inscription dedicated to Emperor Diocletian. The pillar is famous for being the largest monolith column ever built outside of Rome. Have your fantastic lunch and continue the rest of your adventure.

Qaitbay Citadel

Qaitbay Citadel is a beautiful mixture of Islamic architecture and genuine Mediterranean beauty, it was constructed in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf Al-Din Qa’it Bay on top of the legendary lighthouse of Alexandria using the stones salvaged from the lighthouse that served as the third-longest surviving wonder in the ancient world until it’s destruction by earthquakes between 956 AD and 1323 AD. Day trip to Wadi el Hitan and Wadi el Rayan

July 9, 2024

We went on a full day trip to Wadi el Hitan and Wadi el Rayan with Mohamed (Hamada). Mohamed was a wonderful guide, always making sure we had plenty of water and enough to eat, and providing us with information about the area and Egypt more generally. He also gave us plenty of time to explore by ourselves. We would highly recommend Egypt Fun Tours and Mohamed.
